Kolkata or Calcutta is the capital of West Bengal. The British chose Kolkata for their trade purpose. It is in eastern India beside the famous Hooghly river. Kolkata was also the British capital of India till 1911. Kolkata has dry and wet climate with maximum temperature in summer rising to 35oC or above and the winter temperature falling to 15oC. The best time to visit Kolkata is from September to March. Kolkata is located at 22o34' N latitude and 88o24' E longitude.
Birla Planetarium, Victoria Memorial, Rabindra Sadan, Fort William, Howrah Bridge, Vidyasagar Setu, Writer's Building etc are some of places worth visiting . You can also visit places like Kalighat, Dhakineshwar Temple, Belur Math, Burrabazar, New Market, City Center (Salt Lake). Botanical Gardens, Nicco Park, Science City etc.
